The Kulshan Garden is Blooming!

Principal’s Blog

Kulshan Garden

This week’s blog features an update from Pippin Christiansen, our Garden Coordinator:

“There has been a lot going on in the garden this spring. The 8th grade science students have been getting into the garden once a week. They have cleaned up the garden beds, planted peas, prepped some experimental beds for lab work, built a pea trellis, and staked and protected the new fruit trees. The fruit trees are budding and the pears are getting ready to bloom. The fence post holes continue to dry so that we can complete digging and installing a fence to keep the deer out of our garden. We recently acquired two worm bins to explore the science of compost and the decomposition cycle of the garden. The Lowe’s grant has been instrumental in the growth of the garden this year.  We will be having a work party from 10 am -12 noon on Sunday the 30th of April. We plan on doubling the size of our current garden this spring through sheet mulching. Donations of flat cardboard would be appreciated. We will need lots of help during the summer watering and harvesting the garden. A sign-up genius will come out in late May that will allow you to sign up for a week of garden watering in the summer. Thanks for all the support.”

Mark your calendar for Sunday, April 30th from 10 am – Noon for our Garden Work Party!  I hope to see you there.

With Thunderbird Pride,

Meagan Dawson
