If you are a Kulshan parent, you have probably noticed that our school is located in the midst one of the most beautiful campuses in the region, if not the nation. Surrounded by native trees, nestled against Lookout Mountain Open Space, and situated across the street from Whatcom Falls Park, our students and staff get to experience gorgeous views from every angle.  Many of our daily learning experiences seek to take advantage of our location.

Our district Bicycle Unit rotates a fleet of Trek bikes to each of our middle schools to deliver a developmentally responsive curriculum to our adolescents.  It was exciting to witness students who had rarely been on a bicycle experience the liberation of riding a bike around our Kulshan campus. Classmates who were bike “pros” were able to support peers with respectful, compassionate coaching sessions.

Our garden is another great example of encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.  Produce is beginning to “crop” up in our healthy, vibrant garden beds.  Students visit our garden on a rotating basis and many of our vegetables end up in our school salad bar for a “farm to fork” experience.  If you are interested in supporting our garden this summer, we are recruiting Kulshan friends and family to sign up via this link: (click on Kulshan), or by emailing our Common Threads volunteer:

We appreciate your support as we create a healthy, active school culture!

With Thunderbird Pride,

Meagan Dawson
