Kulshan leadership update

A Message from Principal Meagan Dawson

I want to share a leadership update with you. During a staff meeting today, we announced that Nikki Lockhart will be joining the Kulshan team as assistant principal for next fall. As you may remember, Mr. Terpstra will be moving to Options High School as assistant principal.

Ms. Lockhart has been a health and physical education teacher and athletic coach in Bellingham Public Schools since 2007, with experience at Parkview, Columbia, Sehome and Bellingham High, where she also served one year as dean of students. Since 2020, she has been dean of students at Shuksan Middle School.

Ms. Lockhart holds a bachelor’s degree from University of San Francisco and a master’s degree and her administrative credential from Western Washington University. A respected leader in health education, her extensive experience brings expertise in caring for student mental health and wellness, and facilitating welcoming, inclusive schools with high, loving expectations for student achievement and behavior. She values flexibility, inquiry and reflection when working with students, staff and families.

I would like to thank the Kulshan and district staff who participated in the interview teams for assistant principal positions.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Lockhart to Kulshan Middle School.
